The Archaeological Museum of Siena is situated at present in the Marcacci, Novaro
and Stretta Rooms inside the Spedale of S. Maria della Scala.

Baked clay plate with gods figures VI c. b.C.
It has been
arranged in two main sections: the Antiquarium section, which contains the public
and private collections forming the original nucleus of the Museum, placed in the
following order: the Bonci Casuccini Collection, the Bargagli Petrucci
Collection, the Chigi Zondadari Collection, the Mieli Collection, the Academy of
the Physiocritics Collection and the City Council Collection. All these important
Sienese Archaeological collections, most of whose material comes from the
districts of Siena and Chiusi, were put together between the late 19th century
and the first decades of this century.

This is followed by the Topographical
Section, which provides a panorama on the archeology in the "Sienese"
territory and concentrates on the following cultural areas in particular: Siena -
the city and the district of Siena, Murlo, the Chianti area and the upper Elsa
Valley.
Several extremely important archaeological groups are exhibited here,
most of them tomb furnishings discovered during the excavations carried out in
the district in recent years by the Tuscan Archaeological Service.
