Violin, cello and double bass are the main features of Dave Douglas'
String Group. It is a new proposal for a musician who has always been praised for
his fantasy as a player and for his desire to look for new avenues of expression
in his groups (see the Tiny Bell Trio and the Sextet) and in his collaborations
(John Zorn's Masada and Myra Melford's Ensemble). Webern and Stravinsky go along
with Ellington and Booker Little in a synthesis of feelings, a lesson in
rewriting the formulas of the European tradition with sudden twists and turns,
only to reach for a warmer sense of communication.
