Bloodcount had to come back at Musicus. Tim Berne's quartet was one of the best bands of 1995 in Florence, with a wonderful interplay between Berne's alto and Chris Speed's tenor, backed by the strong pulse of Michael Formanek's bass and Jim Black's drums: a group ready to forge a whole new jazz in its energy and balance. Berne, always the loyal pupil of Julius Hemphill, is particularly interested in establishing an original staging for his groups, where all the musicians are called to give his best. Long melodies, risky geometric sounds: all this gives a strong fascination to this music, enthusiastic and communicative as the best jazz can be.
